Environmental Traveling Companions

"As a paraplegic I know that ETC trips are incredible experiences for people with disablities - and it's awesome to help provide an opportunity where anybody can push aside boundaries that have been imposed on them because of a disability."

-- ETC Guide Kristi Grøtting

Volunteers are the heart and soul of ETC. Environmental Traveling Companions' family of volunteers represents a diversity of culture, age, occupation, and ability. Each brings their own special talents to help ETC carry out its mission. And we have tons of fun! Do you love the outdoors, love to share adventures with others, and love to see people laugh? Then you should join ETC!

Outdoor Guides
Guides in ETC's three outdoor programs are trained in wilderness skills, leadership, environmental education, disability & diversity awareness, and first aid/CPR. ETC guides are full of compassion and fun. That's what inspires ETC's participant groups to return year after year - as well as ETC guides to return trip after trip! Volunteer guides commit to guiding at least four trips per year, but some do more than twenty! Training for new guides is usually conducted once a year, prior to the beginning of each program's season. Skills practice days and fun paddle trips are regularly scheduled to help guides improve their skills and stay in touch.
For information on becoming a guide, contact the program managers for the winter, sea kayaking, or whitewater rafting programs. Download our Volunteer Application.

Special Events
Love a good party? Special events such as the annual Sea Trek Regatta and Adventurers' Auction involve ETC volunteers in activities ranging from auction management to catering, publicity, ticket sales, truck driving and graphic design.

Board of Directors
ETC's Board of Directors is composed of volunteers actively involved in fundraising, long range planning, and providing guidance to ETC's staff.

Trades People
Are you a carpenter, plumber, electrician or landscape genius? Our new, beautiful and fully accessible campground on the South Fork American River provides a multitude of volunteer opportunities for those with practical, hands-on maintenance skills!

Equipment Repair
If you know how to repair fiberglass sea kayaks or hypalon river rafts and all their associated equipment, WE NEED YOU!

Computer Skills
Does Mac computer wizard describe you? ETC needs You!

Graphic Design
Is graphic design your niche? We need your artistic genius for design projects ranging from brochures to t-shirts.

Office Help
ETC always needs help in our office with mailings and other projects. It's a great way to get involved.
