Sea Kayaking Field Intern
Description of the Agency
ETC is a non-profit
organization that provides accessible wilderness and environmental education
experiences for people with disabilities and youth. The organization's primary
goal is to provide access to the wilderness to people of all abilities and to
promote self-esteem, self-sufficiency, and a greater appreciation for the
environment.
Description of Position
Field: The Sea Kayak field intern will be
trained to staff one, two, and three day sea kayak trips for people with
disabilities and low income youth. The intern must be available to work 3
weekdays (Mon – Fri) a week, and be available for one and two night
overnight trips. The Sea Kayak
Field Intern will work under the supervision of the Sea Kayak Program Manager.
Administrative: The intern will very occasionally work in the office on office projects
including follow up to trips, record keeping, and communication with
volunteers.
Qualifications Desired:
We
are looking for a motivated self-starter who has a desire to develop outdoor
leadership skills; and is enthusiastic about working with youth and adults with
special needs. Experience as a
volunteer or staff with youth programs or special needs programs is desired but
not necessary. Environmental education experience is highly desired. Previous
experience Sea Kayaking is not necessary.
Term
Internships
are available for minimum 3 months duration starting June 1 through October
31. Start dates are
flexible.
Compensation
$500
a month stipend for approximately 12 days per month of trips
Complimentary
2 day disability awareness training for interns signed up by May15th.
