We offer seasonal opportunities in each of our adventure programs, as well as paid field internships. We are currently accepting applications for all Sea Kayaking and River Rafting seasonal positions.

Sea Kayak Program Associate

The Sea Kayak Program Associate is responsible to the Sea Kayak Program Manager. The Associate will learn the operations of a non-profit volunteer-based organization providing therapeutic recreation programs.

  • Duties:
    • Outreach to groups, individuals and agencies.
    • Booking guides and trip leaders for trips.
    • Answering questions from the general public.
    • Trip follow-up with program groups.
    • Data entry and general office work.
    • Assisting with training coordination.
    • Updating training and resource manuals.
    • Organizing education for guides.
  • Qualifications Desired:
    • A desire to develop leadership skills.
    • Excellect communication skills.
    • Strong organizational and problem solving skills.
    • Ability to work independently.
    • Comfortable working on multiple projects and has a flexible attitude.
    • Mac literate.
    • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds.
    • Kayaking experiencing desirable.
    • Available for occasional overnight kayaking & camping trips.
    • CPR and First Aid training required.
  • Dates: April 1 - October 15.
  • Salary: $1000 per month. Includes six-day sea kayak guide school and two-day disability awareness training free of charge.

River Program Associate

The Program Associate will work under the supervision of the River Program Manager, at the ETC River Camp on the South Fork of the American.

  • Duties:
    • Answering questions from the general public.
    • Ongoing outreach and follow-up with client groups.
    • Confirming guides and trip leaders on trips.
    • General office work as needed.
    • Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely and professional manner. 
    • Responsible for cash accounts and maintenance of relevant records.
    • Provide leadership on whitewater rafting trips for special populations on the South Fork American, with occasional trips to Klamath river.
    • Work with a management and intern team to run a successful rafting program
  • Qualifications Desired:
    • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem solving skills.
    • Comfortable working with people from diverse backgrounds
    • A flexible attitude, with the ability to juggle multiple tasks and work independently.
    • Experience in rafting and outdoor therapeutic recreation or environmental education preferred but not necessary.
    • Computer literacy a must. Mac experience highly preferred, Filemaker Pro experience desirable.
    • CPR and First Aid training are required before your first trip.

  • Salary: DOE. Includes free room, partial board, and Swift Water Rescue training.

River Operations Manager

The River Operations Manager is responsible to the River Program Manager.

  • Duties:
    • Organizing logistics of whitewater rafting trips for special populations on the South Fork of the American River.
    • Trip leading river trips for people with special needs.
    • Supervising both volunteer and paid program staff.
    • Supervising upkeep and maintenance of river camp area, equipment and vehicles.
    • Orchestrating ongoing training for volunteers and interns.
    • Assisting in staffing trips with guides.
    • Developing and maintaining positive relationships with local outfitters.
    • Conducting complete inventory of equipment.
    • Other duties as assigned.
  • Qualifications:
    • Class III & IV guide experience.
    • Strong organizational skills.
    • Staff management experience.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Self-motivation and good problem solving skills.
    • Experience coordinating volunteers preferred.
    • Experience working with special populations highly desirable.
  • Dates: 2012 dates May - October.
  • Salary: $1800-$2200 per month, DOE. Includes room, partial board, and Swift Water Rescue training.

Internship: Winter Program

 

The Winter Field Internship is based in Northern California’s Sierra Mountains. Interns are responsible for leading and facilitating a wide variety of winter activities, planning and managing trip logistics, site and equipment maintenance, successfully working and living in a team environment, interacting with diverse populations, and generally creating and sharing in an incredible winter experience! Training is provided and is mandatory regardless of previous experience.

  • Qualifications:
    • Wilderness First Aid and CPR (or higher)
    • Strong leadership and communication skills
    • Ability to creatively problem solve and work effectively as a team
    • Ability to take initiative, be flexible, and work independently
    • Basic Nordic ski experience preferred
    • Wilderness and environmental education experience preferred
    • Experience working with youth & people with special needs preferred
  • Dates: 2012 positions filled. 2013 dates TBD.
  • Compensation:
    • Stipend, room, and partial board
    • Skiing privileges including use of equipment and Bear Valley Nordic pass
    • Nordic ski and disability awareness training
Internship: Sea Kayak Program

The Sea Kayak Field Intern will work under the supervision of the Sea Kayak Program Manager. Interns will be trained to facilitate and lead sea kayak trips for people with disabilities and low income youth. Interns must be available to work 3 weekdays (Mon – Fri) a week, and be available for overnight trips. Interns will occasionally work in the office on office projects including follow up to trips, record keeping, and communication with volunteers.

  • Qualifications:
    • Motivated self-starter who has a desire to develop outdoor leadership skills
    • Enthusiastic about working with youth and adults with special needs. 
    • Experience as a volunteer or staff with youth programs or special needs programs is desired but not necessary.
    • Environmental education experience is highly desired.
    • Previous experience Sea Kayaking is not necessary for interns who can attend training. (Training dates TBA)
  • Dates: Internships are available for minimum 3 months duration starting June 1 through October 31. Start dates are flexible.
  • Compensation:
    • $500 a month stipend for approximately 12 days per month of trips
    • Complimentary 6-Day Sea kayak Training and 2-Day Disability Awareness Training for interns signed up by April 1

Internship: River Program

Field interns will assist and/or guide whitewater rafting trips and outdoor activities and games, aid in logistical planning, coordination of volunteers, program development, maintenance of the site and repair of equipment.  Our site is on the South Fork of the American River twenty minutes north of Placerville, California, in Lotus. All field interns live at our American River camp in cozy open air outdoor shelters which are provided.

  • Qualifications:
    • Motivated self-starter who has a desire to develop outdoor leadership skills
    • Enthusiastic about working with youth and adults with special needs.
    • Experience as a volunteer or staff with youth programs or special needs programs is desired but not necessary.
    • Environmental education experience is highly desired.
    • Previous experience in Whitewater Rafting desired, but not necessary. (Training dates TBA)
  • Dates: Summer, June-August/September 2012.
  • Compensation:
    • $400 a month stipend.
    • Free 2-day Disability Awareness Training and Swift Water Rescue Training.
    • Free room and partial board.

Development Manager

ETC is now seeking a full-time Development Manager to work out of our offices in San Francisco.

Professional Responsibilities:           

  • Researching and writing foundation grant proposals and reports.    
  • Managing and expanding ETC’s individual donor base including annual appeals, acknowledgements, and cultivation events.
  • Providing leadership for identifying new funding sources
  • Developing and managing ETC’s Major Gifts Committee
  • Spearheading the creation of a Legacy Giving Program
  • Collaborating with the Executive Director to produce annual membership appeals.
  •  

Professional Qualifications:

            

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • A proven track record in individual donor development and grant writing (2+ years experience.)
  • Experience with database management.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, Filemaker Pro, Drupal CMS.
  • Must be highly organized, self-motivated, flexible and possess a high level of personal integrity. 
  • Enthusiasm for outdoor adventures, knowledge of special populations and a desire to forward ETC’s mission is a plus.

The Development Manager reports to the Executive Director

Salary Range:
Dependent on experience.
Full-time with health and dental benefits.
